Do newborns get diarrhea from switching formula codes?

Must read

For children, whether the diet is proper is the most concerning issue for mothers. Sometimes, mothers may consider changing the baby’s formula, but they worry that the new formula may not be suitable, leading to the child’s discomfort. Indeed, an improper formula switch can cause diarrhea, while a reasonable switch can help the child grow healthily. Therefore, when changing the formula for a child, there are several key points to keep in mind. Since the infant’s digestive system is not mature, frequent formula changes may cause digestive disorders or even diarrhea. It is recommended to proceed with the correct formula transition in stages: for the first three days, mix two-thirds of the old formula with one-third of the new formula; for the next four to six days, mix the old and new formulas in equal parts; from the seventh to the ninth day, adjust to two-thirds new formula and one-third old formula. In this way, by the tenth day, the transition to the new formula can be completed.

It is best to change the formula when the baby is in good condition and pay attention to observing the stool situation. If there are digestive issues, probiotics such as “Mommy Love” or “Bifidus” can be given appropriately to help regulate.

A newborn’s digestive system is fragile, and formula changes should not be frequent. If a change is needed, it is advisable to wait until the baby is a little older to proceed. If the baby experiences diarrhea after changing the formula, immediately revert to using the original formula to alleviate the symptoms.

There are numerous brands of formula in the market, each with its nutritional characteristics and taste. Parents can choose the appropriate formula based on the child’s actual physique. For example, if the child has weak digestive abilities, easily digestible formula can be selected to avoid problems such as constipation or diarrhea.
