The menstrual cycle is generally calculated from the first day of menstruation to the next menstrual cycle, with an average of about 28 days and a normal range between 21 to 35 days. During this cycle, the endometrium thickens under the influence of hormones, and if fertilization does not occur, it sheds and bleeds, forming menstruation, which typically lasts for 3 to 7 days.

From a physiological perspective, a menstruation duration that is too short or too long may signal hormonal issues. For example, a menstrual period lasting only 3 days with a low flow, if persistent, may indicate strong but unstable ovarian function or thinning of the endometrium. In the short term, this may not significantly affect the speed of aging, but in the long term, it could impact ovarian reserve, indirectly linking to the timing of menopause and subsequent bone and heart health. Conversely, a menstrual period lasting 7 days or more may indicate abnormal endometrial hyperplasia or other gynecological conditions, such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids. Prolonged bleeding in such cases can lead to anemia, affecting metabolism and immune function, accelerating aging.

However, predicting the aging process solely based on the menstrual cycle is not comprehensive. Aging is a result of multiple factors such as genetics, lifestyle, environment, nutrition, and chronic diseases working together. The menstrual cycle is just one aspect, and the various reasons behind it cannot be directly equated to an accelerated aging process.

Therefore, it is recommended that women undergo regular gynecological examinations, monitor changes in their menstrual cycle, and adjust their lifestyle habits based on their individual circumstances to maintain health and delay aging. This includes: maintaining a balanced diet, consuming antioxidant-rich foods; ensuring adequate and high-quality sleep; engaging in regular aerobic exercise and strength training; learning stress management and maintaining a positive mindset; as well as quitting smoking, limiting alcohol intake, and reducing exposure to harmful environmental factors. Through these comprehensive measures, women can effectively promote hormonal balance and enjoy a healthier, more vibrant life.
