One-year-old baby received the hand, foot, and mouth disease vaccine.

Must read

After a one-year-old baby receives the foot-and-mouth vaccine, they may experience some adverse reactions, such as redness and swelling at the injection site, as well as pain. Some infants may develop a mild fever, typically with a temperature not exceeding 38°C; this does not require special treatment and will improve on its own. However, a small number of infants may experience a persistent high fever or lethargy, in which case timely measures to reduce fever and supportive treatment should be taken.

In terms of care, it is recommended to provide easily digestible liquid foods for the baby, such as rice soup or thin porridge, and to avoid spicy or stimulating foods to prevent gastrointestinal discomfort caused by increased burden. Additionally, ensure that the baby is adequately hydrated, as hand, foot, and mouth disease is caused by a virus, which may lead to increased sweating in children. Appropriate hydration can prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

If the baby’s temperature is slightly above normal but not reaching 38.5°C, using fever-reducing patches or wiping with lukewarm water can help lower the temperature, while observing their mental status and whether they exhibit reduced appetite, vomiting, coughing, or increased rash symptoms.

For treatment, if diagnosed with viral hand, foot, and mouth disease, antiviral medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, such as ribavirin granules and acyclovir tablets. Additionally, combining with traditional Chinese medicine that clears heat and detoxifies, such as Shuanghuanglian oral liquid, Lianqiao oral liquid, and Pudilan anti-inflammatory oral liquid, can effectively relieve symptoms.

To address itching caused by ruptured blisters, scratching should be avoided, and the use of calamine lotion may be advised by a doctor. If the baby experiences severe symptoms like difficulty breathing or convulsions, immediate medical attention should be sought, and the doctor may consider intravenous medication, such as ribavirin injection or acyclovir sodium injection, to expedite the treatment process.
