Symptoms of anemia in newborns during the postpartum period.

Must read

If a baby encounters anemia issues during the postpartum period, the manifestations may vary depending on the severity. Mild anemia may not cause obvious symptoms, but moderate to severe anemia may lead to various reactions. These reactions include changes in skin color to yellowish or pale, which is related to insufficient red blood cell production or iron deficiency; loss of appetite, which could be due to reduced blood volume affecting digestion; and feelings of low energy, weakness, and decreased immunity, making the baby more susceptible to infections and exacerbating the anemic condition.

In certain specific circumstances, anemic infants may exhibit other symptoms. For example, increased respiratory rate due to decreased oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood caused by anemia, affecting the respiratory system; enlarged liver and spleen, common in various types of anemia, especially in advanced stages of iron-deficiency anemia; slowed growth and development process due to prolonged anemia leading to bodily ischemia and hypoxia, hindering normal growth. In extreme cases, severe anemia may also result in accelerated heart rate, breathing difficulties, edema, skeletal changes, seizures, or even coma.

In the face of suspicion of anemia, parents should take their child for medical examination early and follow the doctor’s guidance for medication, such as using ferrous succinate granules that promote hematopoiesis or chlorophyll copper sodium tablets to alleviate iron deficiency symptoms. In daily care, ensure proper feeding, reduce prolonged crying of the baby to prevent and assist in treating anemia.
