When the baby is sick, parents, especially first-time mothers, often feel at a loss when faced with a child’s high fever. It becomes particularly important to understand the conditions under which babies are prone to fever and the correct care methods.
Some babies are more likely to develop a fever due to overdressing. Some elders worry about the child catching a cold, and even in warm indoor environments, they dress the child in multiple layers, leading to a flushed face and sweating. Overdressing can make babies more susceptible to colds, as sweating from activity can cause internal heat accumulation, ultimately resulting in a fever. Therefore, adjusting the baby’s clothing according to the weather and room temperature is crucial, ensuring that the baby’s complexion is normal, limbs are warm, and they are not sweating excessively.
Additionally, timid babies may also suffer from fevers more frequently. These children are not good at expressing emotions, and their inner discomfort may weaken their immune system, making them more vulnerable to cold viruses. Parents need to provide these children with more love and communication, guiding them appropriately to help establish a good psychological state.
When dealing with a baby’s fever, reasonable care measures include:
Ensuring adequate sleep: Fever consumes the baby’s energy, and good rest helps preserve strength to fight illness. Create a quiet and comfortable resting environment, closely monitoring the baby’s condition changes.
Timely adjustment of clothing: Flexibly add or remove clothing as body temperature changes. Initially, the baby may feel cold, so breathable thin clothing can be added, and consideration given to using antipyretic medication. After the medication takes effect, the baby will usually start to feel hot and sweat, so clothing should be reduced, and physical cooling methods, such as sponge bathing with warm water, should be applied while keeping the clothing dry and breathable.
Oral hygiene must not be neglected: During high fever, the baby’s mouth can become dry, and self-cleaning ability decreases, making them prone to oral inflammation. Parents can gently wipe the baby’s mouth with diluted boric acid water on a cotton ball or let the baby rinse with a mild saltwater solution, once each morning and evening, to maintain oral cleanliness.
Through these meticulous care practices, the discomfort of the baby during a fever can be effectively alleviated, helping them recover their health faster.
