Southern Country Book Festival | “Doctor Teaches You Meridian Exercises” New Book Launch! Insomnia, Weight Loss, and Waist Pain – Practice These Movements!

Must read

On August 17th, the new book “Doctor Teaches You Meridian Qigong” was released, adding a touch of traditional Chinese medicine health wisdom to the 2024 Southern Book Fair event.

“Doctor Teaches You Meridian Qigong” is one of the books in the “Doctor Teaches You Disease Prevention Series” published by Jinan University Press. The book is oriented towards self-care for common chronic diseases, combining the latest developments in modern medicine to carefully compile 16 sets of effective, practical, and easy-to-follow meridian qigong routines. The book is equipped with MPR technology, allowing readers to scan and view dynamic videos of each meridian qigong routine to grasp the key movements.

The author of the book, Dr. Huang Hanchao, director physician of the Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Guangdong Province, introduced that all the meridian qigong routines in the book are a careful exploration of the essence of traditional Chinese medicine meridian theory. By combining acupressure points and traditional exercises (such as Eight Section Brocade, Tai Chi) from traditional Chinese medicine, the routines have four major highlights: systematic, comprehensive, original, simple, and compatible. By following the routines and considering the daily exercise advice and dietary suggestions provided in the book, the best health effects can be achieved.

For instance, insomnia is a common clinical symptom that can lead to memory decline, mental depression, etc. Practicing a set of calming and sleep-aid qigong exercises can help with falling asleep. This routine is simple and requires only 7 simple steps: rubbing hands together – dry washing face – opening the Heavenly Gate – dry combing the head – clenching fist and tapping heart – rubbing shins – massaging Fengchi acupoint and tapping the Laogong point, which can effectively improve sleep quality. Practice this routine 1 hour before bedtime for about 15 minutes each time. Additionally, ear acupressure, dietary therapy, foot baths, and aromatherapy can help with calming the mind.

Another example is the elderly fall prevention qigong in the book, which helps improve lower limb strength, balance, and coordination, thereby playing a role in fall prevention. Apart from the original fall prevention qigong routines, suggestions for daily living and outings are provided, such as wearing light and non-slippery shoes, installing handrails near toilets, avoiding walking on gravel roads during outings, etc. In case of a fall, elderly individuals should avoid landing on their buttocks and opt to support themselves with their hands instead, as the injuries caused and difficulties in treatment are much lesser when using hand support.

During the interactive session on the scene, the audience enthusiastically asked questions and participated in learning and practicing the meridian qigong routines.
