In daily life, we often see some women focusing on losing weight, whether by looking up at weight loss methods or being obsessed with it, as if regardless of age and height, weight loss seems to be a mandatory course for them. Many women have a good physique, yet they get caught up in relentless weight loss, as if not losing weight means not being a woman.
Many women consider weight loss a lifelong pursuit, even if they are already thin themselves, they still aim to lose weight. However, in reality, this approach to weight loss actually causes serious damage to their bodies. The original intention of weight loss is to achieve a healthy weight, a healthy physique, not to become unhealthy just to be skinny. When it comes to weight loss, balance and healthiness are essential; blindly pursuing weight loss without considering the actual situation is highly unadvisable.
College student hospitalized due to excessive weight loss, weighing only 60 pounds
Imagine a twenty-year-old adult female weighing only 60 pounds; it would be hard for many to picture her appearance. A twenty-year-old adult female weighing 60 pounds would be extremely underweight. This female college student was admitted to the hospital due to fatigue, loss of appetite, and even fainting. Medical examinations revealed that she had electrolyte imbalances, heart and liver function damage. Such conditions, including fainting, were all caused by excessive weight loss!
According to the doctors, this twenty-year-old female, 155 cm tall, went from weighing 105 pounds to 80 pounds due to dissatisfaction with her weight. Even after reaching 80 pounds, she felt it was insufficient and continued with aggressive weight loss. She went without eating rice for six months, ran five kilometers daily, and took weight-loss pills purchased online, resulting in her weight dropping to just over 60 pounds in six months.
This young female college student damaged multiple organs due to excessive weight loss, suffered severe malnutrition, and even developed mental issues. It is truly saddening. Nowadays, many women excessively pursue a slender physique, but in reality, this indicates poor health. Women naturally have higher body fat percentages than men; it’s common for women to appear heavier even if they are not. This young woman’s extreme actions are truly alarming and leave us pondering.
Women always feel they are overweight; how should they face this?
Often, women’s weights are already within the normal range, and there is no need to further reduce weight. Typically, women can calculate whether their weight is in the healthy range by using the BMI value. Body Mass Index (BMI) = weight (kg) / height (m)2, and any value between 18.5 and 23.9 is considered healthy; there is no need to continue losing weight if within this range.
At this point, many women may feel that they cannot wear some pretty clothes due to their body size. However, there is no need to keep reducing weight; instead, focus on reducing body fat and building muscle. Women with abdominal muscles and defined muscles look better in clothes than extremely thin women; they are also stronger and not frail. When weight is within a reasonable range, women can engage in flexibility training to stretch and improve posture, followed by strength training to increase muscle mass and reduce fat. Excessive weight loss through extreme running is not advisable; it is unhealthy and not aesthetically pleasing.
Women’s best weight is a healthy weight; becoming extremely thin from malnutrition is abusing our bodies, not beauty but a form of illness, offering no benefit to our lives.
