After getting up, many people’s inadvertent behaviors may have already let out their Yang energy. No wonder their physical constitution worsens.

Yang Qi, a concept derived from traditional Chinese medicine, is not a mysterious substance within the body; it is more like well water in daily life: warm in winter for washing and warding off the cold, and cool in summer, sufficient for chilling watermelons and bringing relief. Similarly, the Yang Qi in the human body can automatically adjust to changes in the environment, helping us adapt to the cold and warmth of the four seasons, making it a source of vitality.

However, Yang Qi is easily lost. Once it depletes too much, the body becomes vulnerable to illnesses. Especially in the early morning, everyday habits can quietly drain Yang Qi, affecting health and longevity.

While sleeping, not wearing socks may seem harmless, but being directly exposed to air conditioning or fans on summer nights, combined with inadequate bedding, can lead to cold feet, causing the Yang Qi to dissipate. Therefore, keeping the feet warm is crucial, and avoiding walking barefoot upon waking is advised to prevent the cooling of acupoints on the soles, which could affect the function of related organs.

Going out with wet hair after a morning wash may seem trivial but is indeed unbeneficial. This is because Yang Qi is concentrated in the skin and scalp at this time, and the evaporation of damp hair takes away not only moisture but also valuable Yang Qi. It is recommended to thoroughly dry the hair after washing to preserve Yang Qi and maintain immunity.

During breakfast, some people prefer to replace meals with fruit. While this can replenish vitamins and aid digestion, consuming watery, cold-natured fruits like pears and watermelons on an empty stomach actually depletes Yang Qi. It is advisable to first eat warm or neutral foods to settle the stomach, followed by a moderate amount of fruit, such as apples, for better suitability.

Drinking ice water upon waking may provide temporary relief, but it can burden the waking stomach and intestines, leading to Yang Qi dispersion and a drop in immunity, which could result in diarrhea in severe cases. Gentle drinking of warm water is the kinder approach to the body.

Protecting Yang Qi is all about details. Avoiding the aforementioned habits is building a foundation for health. Small changes make a big difference, preventing the body from being easily harmed.
