WHO calls for discontinuation: “2 coarse grains” may raise blood sugar more than smoking and alcohol, which may exacerbate diabetes. Eat less.

Must read

Eat coarse grains has many benefits, especially for diabetes patients. Because coarse grains are rich in dietary fiber, they can slow down the absorption of glucose in the stomach, thus stabilizing blood sugar to some extent.
But it is worth mentioning that although coarse grains are very healthy, choosing the right ones to eat is important. Eating “pseudo-coarse grains” can make it difficult to ensure stable blood sugar levels.

Case analysis:
Zhu, 46 years old this year, used to work as a cleaner. Due to illness, she resigned and rested at home for a period of time. Now, she is doing some small business outside. Although she earns less, she is not as tired as before.
However, recently, Zhu often feels dizzy, weak, and thirsty. At first, she thought it was due to fatigue. But as the situation worsened, Zhu had to go to the hospital for a check-up.
At that time, the doctor first inquired about Zhu’s physical condition, understood her medical history, and suspected that the situation had deteriorated and developed into diabetes after learning that she had high blood sugar. Subsequently, the doctor conducted a series of tests for Zhu, and the results showed that her blood sugar level was 15.7mmol/L, confirming diabetes.

This surprised and puzzled Zhu. She stated that she had been eating coarse grains since she fell ill, so why did the situation worsen? After the doctor deeply understood Zhu’s diet, he stated that both types of coarse grains would raise blood sugar levels, regardless of who eats them.

The World Health Organization calls for the cessation of the use of “two coarse grains,” which raise blood sugar levels more than smoking and drinking and may catalyze diabetes, so consume less.
1. Whole wheat bread
When Zhu does not feel like cooking in the morning, she would eat whole wheat bread, which is convenient. However, many whole wheat breads on the market contain additional sugar and oil to improve taste, but this increases sugar and calorie levels.
Therefore, for people with high blood sugar, blood sugar fluctuations after consumption are common. Prolonged consumption may damage the pancreas and increase the risk of diabetes.

2. Multi-grain biscuits
As Zhu eats less regularly, she occasionally gets hungry and prepares multi-grain biscuits to eat when hungry. Similar to coarse grain bread, multi-grain biscuits cannot avoid the addition of starch, oil, sugar, and salt for better taste. Consequently, frequent consumption by those with high blood sugar can lead to elevated blood sugar levels, which is not conducive to stabilizing the condition.

If blood sugar silently rises, what abnormal symptoms might the body exhibit?
1. A rise in blood sugar levels thickens the blood, obstructing the smooth transportation of blood and oxygen in the body, leading to fatigue, weakness, and drowsiness.
2. Slow healing of injured bleeding areas, prone to inflammation and infection.
3. Numbness in the hands and feet, sometimes accompanied by tingling sensations.
4. Increased urination frequency and the presence of fine and persistent foam in the urine.
5. Skin becoming excessively dry, itchy, and applying medication has no effect.

To regulate blood sugar levels, two important things should be done daily to protect the pancreas and promote stable blood sugar levels:
1. Nutritional supplementation
2. Regular blood sugar monitoring
Maintaining stable blood sugar levels first requires an understanding of one’s own blood sugar levels to respond correctly. Thus, individuals with high blood sugar levels should cultivate the habit of regularly monitoring their blood sugar levels.
