How can hypertension patients prevent cerebral hemorrhage? Do food choices matter as well?

Must read

Hypertension is a globally prevalent chronic disease, which in itself is not scary, but can bring many complications, often leading to disability or even life-threatening conditions, including cerebral hemorrhage.

Cerebral hemorrhage generally occurs suddenly and can easily cause limb disabilities and even endanger life.

According to surveys, the percentage of people in China suffering from hypertension is as high as around 32%, and hypertension has become the leading cause of disability and death in China.

In order to prevent complications such as cerebral hemorrhage, hypertensive patients must control their blood pressure well. In daily life, the following types of foods must be “avoided” to prevent blood pressure spikes!

1. High-salt foods

The incidence of hypertension is directly related to the daily intake of salt in everyday life. Consuming large amounts of salt can lead to an excessive sodium ion content in the body, causing water and salt imbalance, thereby increasing blood pressure.

The daily salt intake for adults should be less than 6 grams, and hypertensive patients should pay more attention to reducing their salt intake.

When cooking, use less salt and various seasonings. Avoid or limit the consumption of high-salt foods like preserved fish, pickles, and cured meat.

If you must eat them, try to reduce the salt content as much as possible. Also, 1000 milligrams of sodium are equivalent to 2.5 grams of salt, so snacks high in sodium should also be avoided.

2. High-cholesterol foods

Cholesterol can cause blood vessel hardening, and with hardened blood vessels, their fragility increases. At this point, the blood vessel walls are more vulnerable to the pressure from blood circulation, leading to ruptures and bleeding. If this happens in the brain blood vessels, it can trigger cerebral hemorrhage.

Additionally, cholesterol increases the risk of elevated blood lipids. For hypertensive patients, this is like adding insult to injury.

Animal offal, pig skin, fried foods, etc., are all high-cholesterol foods with extremely high cholesterol content that hypertensive patients should avoid.

3. High-fat foods

High-fat foods mainly refer to those containing a large amount of saturated fatty acids. A high intake of saturated fatty acids can easily clog blood vessel walls, directly threatening cardiovascular health.

It leads to elevated blood pressure, blood lipids, and cholesterol, resulting in various diseases such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, etc.

Hypertensive patients should strictly limit their fat intake to prevent cerebral hemorrhage due to hardened blood vessels. Items like fatty meat, butter, and fried foods fall into the high-fat food category, especially fatty meat.

Animal fat content is exceptionally high, and after high-temperature frying, meats not only have high fat content but also contain harmful components like carcinogenic benzopyrene that are harmful to the body.

4. Smoking and alcohol

Tobacco contains toxins like nicotine, which enters the bloodstream throughout the body when smoked, affecting antihypertensive drugs, reducing their effectiveness or rendering them ineffective. This can lead to prolonged periods of elevated blood pressure, increasing the risk of dangers.

Alcohol not only affects the action of antihypertensive drugs but also accelerates heart rate, constricts blood vessels, raises blood pressure, promoting the deposition of calcium salts, cholesterol, etc., on blood vessel walls. Long-term alcohol consumption can make blood vessels more fragile and trigger cerebral hemorrhage.
