Introduction: There is a popular saying among the people: “If detoxification is not performed during the dog days, the body will be blocked for the entire year.” This saying implies that if detoxification is neglected during the dog days, the body will become blocked for the following year, leading to the occurrence of various diseases. But does this saying have any scientific basis? In fact, the dog days every year are the hottest and most humid time of the year, during which various mosquitoes, insects, and germs breed. This leads to the invasion of harmful toxins into the body. Only by promptly detoxifying the body can it become healthier. Therefore, the saying “If detoxification is not performed during the dog days, the body will be blocked for the entire year” does have some rationale. To detoxify, besides exercising more and drinking more water, we can also consume detoxifying foods in our daily diet. Today, I will introduce 4 dishes known as “detoxifying dishes,” which are recommended to be consumed frequently during the dog days for a toxin-free and light body.
First dish: Fresh lily bulbs
Fresh lily bulbs have a particularly sweet taste and are a type of fresh vegetable that clears the lungs, aids in sleep, and detoxifies by removing heat. Consuming them frequently during the dog days can effectively reduce internal heat and detoxify the body, especially recommended for middle-aged and women who value beauty.
[Recommended cooking method]: Lily bulbs tossed in sauce
[Ingredients]: 4-5 lily bulbs, 10g minced garlic, 5g XO sauce, coriander, salt, soy sauce, cooking oil as needed.
[Cooking method]:
Step 1: First, break the lily bulbs into slices, then rinse them thoroughly with tap water until all dirt is removed.
Step 2: Heat an adequate amount of water in a pot until boiling, then blanch the lily bulbs for 30 seconds, remove them from the pot, and drain excess water from the lily bulbs.
Step 3: Heat oil in a pot, fry the minced garlic until light golden, then add the fried garlic, XO sauce, coriander, salt, and soy sauce to the lily bulbs. Finally, mix well before serving.
Second dish: Kelp
In the summer, one of my favorite cold dishes is shredded kelp. When mixed, it is crisp and refreshing, tastes great when eaten with white rice porridge. The iodine in kelp, when absorbed by the body, aids in expelling harmful substances and toxins, making the body healthier. People who consume kelp regularly tend to have better health.
[Recommended cooking method]: Kelp salad
[Ingredients]: 300g shredded kelp, sesame oil, salt, chopped green onions, coriander, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, mixed spices, cooking oil, minced garlic as needed.
[Cooking method]:
Step 1: Boil water in a pot, blanch the shredded kelp for 30 seconds, then immediately soak it in cold water for about 10 minutes. Once cooled, drain the kelp thoroughly.
Step 2: Sprinkle minced garlic on the surface of the shredded kelp, pour a spoonful of hot oil over the garlic, then add sesame oil, salt, green onions, coriander, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and mixed spices to the kelp, mixing well before serving.
Third dish: Mung bean sprouts
Mung bean sprouts are vegetables that should be consumed more during the dog days as they are rich in vitamin C and riboflavin. These substances have the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying. Additionally, mung bean sprouts are rich in dietary fiber, which helps promote intestinal peristalsis and aids in eliminating toxins and waste from the body.
[Recommended cooking method]: Stir-fried mung bean sprouts with garlic chives
[Ingredients]: 100g garlic chives, 300g mung bean sprouts, minced garlic, dried chili, soy sauce, salt, lard, chicken essence as needed.
[Cooking method]:
Step 1: Rinse the mung bean sprouts thoroughly, then cut the garlic chives into 4-5 cm pieces and rinse them as well.
Step 2: Heat lard in a pan until it reaches 50% heat, then quickly stir-fry the minced garlic and dried chili for 3 seconds. Next, add the mung bean sprouts to the pan, stir-fry over high heat until the sprouts are partially cooked.
Step 3: Add the garlic chives, soy sauce, salt, and chicken essence to the pan, stir-fry over high heat until the garlic chives are cooked.
Fourth dish: Lotus seeds
Lotus seeds are fruits that should be consumed more during the dog days. In my home, lotus seeds are almost a daily necessity. Fresh lotus seeds are crisp and sweet, while cooked lotus seeds are soft, glutinous, and sweet. Moreover, lotus seeds are particularly good at detoxification. People who regularly consume lotus seeds are less likely to get fiery or have outbreaks of acne. Eating lotus seeds is simple – chill fresh lotus seeds for an hour at home, then enjoy the fresh and sweet taste.
