Can women eat beef during confinement?

Must read

After childbirth, commonly known as “postpartum confinement,” is an important recovery period for women after giving birth, crucial for their future physical and mental well-being. During this time, proper body care is crucial as improper care may lead to health risks. Concerning the diet during the confinement period, lamb meat has become a highly discussed topic. In fact, new mothers can safely consume lamb meat as it is rich in various amino acids, high protein, carbohydrates, as well as vitamins B2, B12, and abundant minerals like calcium, iron, phosphorus, which help enhance the body’s immunity, particularly beneficial for women who have experienced postpartum blood loss; it not only replenishes blood and energy but also promotes physical recovery.

However, when consuming lamb meat, a few points should be noted: ensure the lamb meat is thoroughly cooked to avoid consuming raw or undercooked meat to prevent parasitic and bacterial infections. Considering the firm texture of lamb meat, it is advisable to stew it until tender for easier digestion by new mothers. For mothers allergic to lamb meat, it is best to avoid consuming it during the confinement period to prevent allergic reactions.

Initial confinement meals should consist of appetizing foods to stimulate appetite for better nutrient absorption. Besides lamb meat, chicken and lean pork are also good sources of high-quality protein and are equally suitable. Moreover, a balanced diet should not be overlooked, with a moderate intake of fruits and vegetables to supplement dietary fiber.

Below are two lamb meat recipes suitable for pregnant women:

Stir-Fried Lamb with Celery Ingredients: 50g lamb meat, 200g celery, 5g light soy sauce, 10g starch, cooking wine, spring onions, ginger, a few, cooking oil, salt to taste. Brief steps: Chop the lamb meat, marinate with light soy sauce, starch, and cooking wine; wash and blanch celery; chop spring onions and ginger. Stir-fry the spring onions and ginger, quickly cook the lamb meat, set aside. Stir-fry the celery, then add the cooked lamb meat, stir fry quickly, season, and serve.

Tomato Soybean Braised Beef Ingredients: 500g beef brisket, 500g tomatoes, soybeans as needed, various spices, spring onions, ginger, dried chili, cooking wine, light soy sauce, salt. Brief steps: Cut the beef brisket, slice the tomatoes; heat oil, add spices, then sauté the beef brisket until browned. Transfer the beef brisket to a casserole, add enough water to cover it, add soybeans, cooking wine, light soy sauce, and spice packet (including spring onions, ginger, dried chili). Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat for 1 hour, add tomatoes, continue simmering for another hour, season with salt before serving.

These two dishes are not only delicious but also provide pregnant women with rich calcium and high-quality protein, aiding in fetal development and preventing common pregnancy issues such as leg cramps, making them an ideal choice during the confinement period.
