Why do men gain weight as soon as they get married? Don’t want to get fat, it’s better to know the reasons early.

Must read

Before marriage, a man may be a dashing young man, but shortly after marriage, he may turn into an oily uncle. Many people say that this weight gain is due to being “spoiled” and is because the wife is too good.

It cannot be denied that after marriage, men are busy with their careers and tend to become lazy. Women, on the other hand, focus more on the family and have more things to worry about. Overall, the obesity rate of men after marriage is higher than women, which can also be understood as obesity due to being “spoiled.”

However, this factor is bidirectional, not every household has hardworking women. Nowadays, the number of men cooking is higher than women, which has also led to many women becoming obese after marriage. For those men who frequently do housework, gaining weight after marriage is not as simple as being “spoiled.”

For many men, gaining weight after marriage is more of a psychological issue than a physiological one. After marriage, men find their other half, which leads to a relaxation of their external image. Under this psychological influence, self-standards begin to decrease, and lifestyle habits gradually deteriorate.

Men who used to actively exercise and maintain their physique begin to form the habit of being sedentary, drastically reducing their physical activity. Consequently, their body fat content increases, especially abdominal fat accumulation, leading to weight gain. Weight gain in men tends to be around the belly, indicating a relationship with lack of physical activity.

The abdomen is the part of the body that experiences the least amount of exercise. For men who need to spend long hours working at a computer, the abdomen cannot sustain continuous activity, blood circulation slows down, and fat metabolism decreases. Excessive fat accumulates in the abdomen, resulting in central obesity for men.

The invisible increase in stress transforms married life from a couple’s life to a family with a new member. Having a baby unknowingly adds to the pressure on men, who tend to keep their feelings to themselves, thus affecting their body shape.

Under high pressure, hormonal secretion in the body significantly changes. Cortisol, a hormone in men’s bodies secreted by the adrenal glands, increases significantly under prolonged stress. This increase in hormonal levels alters the fat distribution in men’s bodies, directing excess fat towards the abdominal area, leading to the development of a belly or beer belly.

High pressure further affects the quality of men’s sleep, greatly reducing the effectiveness of sleep, failing to maintain an eight-hour sleep cycle. Poor sleep quality affects hormonal secretion in men and disrupts normal endocrine levels. Many men suffer from insomnia, and prolonged insomnia can lead to obesity.

From the above reasons, psychological relaxation and stress are the primary causes of weight gain in men after marriage. To avoid gaining weight after marriage, it is essential for men to maintain strict standards for themselves. Continuing the exercise habits from before marriage can prevent weight gain and maintain a good physique.

Learning to relieve stress is crucial. Releasing stress is a skill that men need to develop. Stress is not exclusive to men; women also experience stress, and finding ways to relieve stress is crucial. Men should socialize more, spend time with friends, and engage in physical activity to relax, maintain a pleasant mood, and prevent obesity.

Every person will have their concerns as they age, and weight gain is one aspect of it. For men, weight gain tends to begin after marriage rather than in middle age. Understanding the main reasons for weight gain helps in maintaining a good physique.
