Recently, in the rehabilitation medical department of Xisha Hospital in Hangzhou, patients are embarking on a creative journey of joy under the guidance of medical staff!
Doctors say that when patients come to the hospital, they hope to return to their families and society through rehabilitation treatment. However, negative emotions such as fatigue and anxiety are easily generated during the long-term treatment process. In order to promote their physical and mental recovery, medical staff have specially designed some fun and innovative literary therapies to help patients regain their love and hope for life.
Literary therapy is a form of treatment that uses sports and entertainment activities as a means to treat patients. It plays a complementary and extended role in rehabilitation treatment. Internationally, it is also known as adaptive sports, recreational therapy, sports therapy, and in China it is known as rehabilitation sports and recreational therapy. Literary therapy plays an important role in improving physical functions, disease prevention, anti-aging, regulating negative psychological states, and enhancing patients’ confidence and courage to overcome illness.

Let’s take a look at these interesting activities:
1. Rolling Good Luck
The carefully arranged venue is laid out with tracks that resemble a magical path of happiness. Every time a patient gently pushes a bottle, they roll slowly along the track. Each stopping position seems to be carefully selected by the hand of destiny, corresponding to different blessings.
Some bottles stop in front of the “health and longevity” sign, indicating good health and longevity; while others gently fall into the “wish come true” area, symbolizing wishes fulfilled and contentment. At this moment, patients eagerly unveil the small piece of paper under the bottle, their faces beaming with joy from receiving personalized blessings, filling the entire space with warmth and beauty. The whole process also effectively exercises the coordination of the upper limbs.
2. Bottle Dance with Flying Ropes
Using colorful and auspicious ropes, symbolic of good wishes, the bottles carrying those wishes are rolled up one by one. During the game, patients need to focus fully, which tests not only their skills and patience but also strengthens their arm muscle control, enhances hand-eye coordination, and reaction time.
3. “Aiming” for Pleasure
Each patient is given six carefully crafted lightweight plastic arrows. These arrows are safe and easy to throw, suitable for patients of all ages and physical conditions. They stand behind the throwing line with a specially made, moderately sized arrow pot as their target.
Accompanied by cheerful music, patients step forward one by one, holding the arrows, adjusting their breathing, focusing their attention, and throwing the arrows into the pot. Some patients show remarkable accuracy on their first attempt, with the arrows hitting the pot steadily; while others need several attempts, but each failure becomes a step in their learning and progress.

Doctors point out that participating in these games and activities is of great significance to patients: using their brains can relieve anxiety and promote nervous system recovery; hand-eye coordination training is beneficial for enhancing fine motor skills; physical exercise helps strengthen cardiovascular function and improve immunity; and emotional joy is the spiritual pillar of rehabilitation, enhancing self-confidence and courage.
By utilizing the initiative, competitiveness, fun, and collectiveness of training in sports and other activities, it plays an important role in improving patients’ physical functions, improving negative psychological states, and enhancing courage and confidence in life. Bringing humanistic care into the hearts of patients and creating personalized rehabilitation environments can make patients feel warmth and hope, enhancing their confidence and courage to overcome illness!
