[Breaking Weight Loss Myths] “Is there a shortcut to losing weight?” Right or wrong?

Must read

Zhu Wei, Director of the Endocrinology Department at Beijing Aerospace General Hospital

Taking weight loss pills is not a good way to lose weight; it cannot help everyone lose weight easily and may even pose some health risks. The mechanisms of weight loss medications vary; for example, some weight loss pills claim to suppress appetite and reduce food intake, but in reality, they suppress the gastrointestinal motility of the body, which increases the feeling of fullness. Others work by accelerating metabolism, preventing fat absorption, and so on to achieve weight loss. However, these weight loss medications often come with potential side effects and risks, such as possible palpitations, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and even potentially causing heart, nervous system, or digestive system diseases.

We should choose healthy ways to lose weight. First, we should adjust our dietary structure, reducing the intake of high-calorie, high-fat foods and increasing the proportion of foods rich in vitamins and dietary fiber, such as vegetables, low-sugar fruits, and whole grains. Second, we must ensure healthy exercise habits, enhance body metabolism, consume excess calories, and increase muscle mass. With the same exercise intensity, people with less muscle mass burn less energy than those with more muscle mass, so increasing muscle mass through exercise can lead to healthier weight loss.
