Introduction: As autumn arrives, the weather gradually turns cooler. However, our middle-aged and elderly friends need to pay attention, as this time is the golden period for lung care! As the saying goes, “In spring, nurture the liver; in summer, nurture the heart; in autumn, nurture the lungs; in winter, nurture the kidneys.” Autumn is dry, and the lung qi is easily harmed, so we need to focus on our diet and eat more foods that can alleviate autumn dryness and clear lung fire. Today, I’ll recommend two great foods to ensure you enjoy a comfortable autumn!
As the autumn wind rises, it’s time to nourish the lungs.
Do you feel a dry throat and tight skin when you wake up in the morning? That’s autumn dryness knocking on your door! Our middle-aged and elderly friends, unlike our younger days, need to understand how to adapt to the seasons and nurture ourselves. After the start of autumn, it’s the time when the lungs need the most care. If we take good care of the lungs, our breathing will be smooth, and we’ll naturally feel energetic and look good.
First food: Snow pear and white fungus soup – Nourishing for the lungs, stops coughing, and enhances beauty.
When it comes to nourishing the lungs, how can we forget about snow pears? Snow pears are natural lung nourishment experts. They are cool in nature and sweet in taste, helping to generate fluids, moisten dryness, and clear heat to transform phlegm. Paired with white fungus, which nourishes yin and moistens the lungs, they make a perfect combination for autumn health!
-Snow Pear and White Fungus Soup-
Ingredients:
1 snow pear (medium-sized), peeled, cored, and cut into pieces
Half a piece of white fungus, soaked and torn into small pieces
Rock sugar to taste (adjust according to personal preference)
Appropriate amount of water
Steps:
Soak the white fungus: Soak the white fungus in cold water until soft, tear it into small pieces, and wash it clean for later use.
Prepare the snow pear: Wash and peel the snow pear, core it, cut it into moderately sized pieces, and place it into a bowl for later use.
Cooking: In a pot, add enough water, put in the white fungus, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a low heat and simmer for about 30 minutes until the white fungus is soft and gelatinous.
Add the snow pear: Next, add the cut snow pear pieces and continue to simmer for an additional 15 minutes over low heat.
Seasoning: According to personal preference, add an appropriate amount of rock sugar and stir until completely dissolved. For a thicker texture, you can slightly thicken the soup.
Serve and enjoy: A bowl of sweet and nourishing snow pear and white fungus soup is ready! Enjoy it while it’s hot, and you’ll feel refreshed and comfortable.
Second food: Lily and lotus seed porridge – Clears the heart, relieves irritability, calms the mind, and nourishes the lungs.
Besides snow pears, lilies and lotus seeds are also great helpers for lung health in autumn. Lilies can nourish yin and moisten the lungs, calming the heart and mind; lotus seeds can strengthen the spleen, stop diarrhea, and soothe the heart and mind. Cooking them together in porridge is both delicious and healthy.
