Are you often feeling down, dealing with a lot of family trivial matters, tense relationships, work not going smoothly, and sometimes feeling like you just can’t continue, wanting to find a place to cry alone?
As an adult, there are many challenges, but we need to learn not to let our emotions control us.
I once saw 8 mood adjustment methods recommended by People’s Daily, I tried them all, and they really work.
Today I am sharing these methods with everyone, hoping to help those who need to adjust their mood.
1. Deep Breathing
When you feel anxious or under a lot of stress, try deep breathing. Find a quiet place, close your eyes, slowly inhale, and then exhale slowly.
Repeat this process several times, you will find your heartbeat gradually calming down, and the tense emotions slowly dissipating.
I have mentioned this method in many places, I do it myself, and it works well.
2. Listen to Music
I believe life should not be without music, it truly has a magic power to instantly affect our mood.
When you are feeling low, listen to some cheerful songs you like, or even soft music, your mood will quickly improve.
I have a habit, when cleaning the house at home, or in other spare time, I always listen to some relaxing music.
3. Write a Diary
If you don’t want to talk to someone, then writing a diary is a good way to release emotions. Write down your troubles and joys, it’s also a process of organizing your thoughts. After writing, you will find your mind clearer and your mood calmer.
I have a friend who is introverted, she always keeps her emotions to herself when feeling down. Later, I suggested to her to write a diary before bed every day, it doesn’t have to be long, even 100 words is enough.
She told me later that after doing this, she felt less suppressed in her mood, and found a suitable way to release her emotions.
4. Communicate with Others
Many people have good friends whom they frequently confide in, and that’s good, at least better than keeping it all to yourself. So, when you are feeling down, don’t stay alone at home. Call a friend and go out for a walk and a chat.
Friends may not solve your problems, but they can be good listeners, and after venting out, you will feel much better. Sometimes, all we need is someone to listen.
5. Do What You Love
When you’re feeling down, engage in activities you love. Such as reading, watching movies, cooking. Doing these things temporarily helps me forget about worries and stay focused on the present.
I enjoy cooking, but now work is busy, so I rarely cook. When my mood is low, I will dive into the kitchen and cook something I like to eat. Sometimes I follow video tutorials on plating, at that moment, my mood becomes as beautiful as the food.
6. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Sometimes when you feel emotionally low or mentally exhausted, it’s because of long hours and inadequate sleep. The best way to adjust is to get a good night’s sleep.
Have you noticed, when you sleep well one night, you wake up the next day feeling great.
I have a friend with high work pressure, sometimes to meet project deadlines, they work overtime continuously for half a month, and they feel drained, with low efficiency every day.
Then, they did nothing on the weekend, just slept all day. Waking up, they felt relaxed, in good spirits, and their work efficiency improved significantly.
7. Help Others
Wang Yangming said, practice kindness in all matters, when you’re feeling down, I suggest you do some good deeds, help others within your capabilities.
Even a small act, like assisting a colleague with heavy tasks, sharing some household chores with your parents, can give you a sense of satisfaction, making you feel needed. After helping others, you’ll realize your own value.
8. Exercise
Exercise is one of the best ways to adjust your mood, whether it’s running, swimming, practicing yoga, or playing sports.
Exercise releases pleasant hormones in our bodies. If you’re feeling low, choose a sport you enjoy or go for a 5-kilometer run.
I am a beneficiary of improved mood through exercise. Whenever faced with difficulties at work and feel low, I go running by the lake near my neighborhood. After sweating it out, my mood also gets relieved.
Don’t think these 8 methods seem too simple to be effective. Trust me, when you actually do them, you’ll find them really effective.
I really like a quote: “No matter what happens, please don’t be sad, don’t be upset, don’t be impatient. Time will slowly tell us, simplicity is the best, ordinary is the most valuable, those who know how to cherish will truly find happiness.”
