The “Three Threes” for Maintaining Good Relationships

Between people, truly good relationships are never about being inseparable or in constant contact, but rather about maintaining an appropriate distance.

Too close can easily lead to conflicts; too far can result in feelings of estrangement. So how should we find the right balance?

In this world, the most comfortable relationships are those where interactions are casual and unrestrained, with no suspicion despite the distance. There is the freshness of initial encounters and the warmth of long-standing familiarity.

Experience tells us that the key to maintaining good relationships lies in the “Three Threes”: three points, three feet, and three lengths, which means:

Leave three points when speaking. Many people and situations have their own backgrounds and reasons, so we should learn to “understand but not judge, see through but not reveal.” This is both a respect for others and a protection for ourselves, reflecting our maturity and tolerance, showcasing personal cultivation and wisdom;

Allow three feet of space in handling matters, accommodating both people and situations, being able to accept both the strengths and weaknesses of others, as well as their peculiarities, appreciating successful outcomes while also accepting failures;

Maintain a distance of three lengths when engaging with others—allowing for closeness while preserving boundaries, leaving space to enjoy freedom, reducing friction, avoiding offense, and minimizing disputes. This way, in future life, we can find sincere affection and maintain lasting good relationships.

By practicing these “Three Threes,” feelings will deepen, relationships will harmonize, and life will become more colorful.
