“Persistence says ‘one cold after an autumn rain,’ with the passing of the Beginning of Autumn, the temperature difference between day and night gradually increases. However, the daytime temperature remains relatively hot. After all, it’s just the beginning of the End of Heat, and it will take some time before the true autumn arrives.
The End of Heat is the last of the three periods of extreme heat and also a transitional period between summer and autumn. For men, it is a time to pay extra attention. As the ‘pillars’ of their families, in order to have a happy career and family, it is necessary to have a healthy body. Many men often overlook their health during the End of Heat, indulging in eating and drinking, leading to a decline in physical fitness during the autumn and winter seasons.
Entering the End of Heat, men are reminded: 1. Do not indulge in drinking, 2. Limit activities, 3. Eat more, and transition to autumn and summer in good health!
1. Do not indulge in drinking
During summer, many men especially enjoy barbecue and beer, especially a cold beer that instantly cools the body, sweeping away the fatigue of the day. After the End of Heat, however, it marks the change of seasons – hot, humid, dry weather conditions that weaken people’s stomach and spleen. At this time, some cold foods need to be avoided, including chilled beer.
Although the stomach and spleen are considered the ‘foundation of one’s postnatal life,’ a weak stomach and spleen lead to various illnesses. Therefore, during this period, it is important to take care of one’s stomach and spleen, avoid consuming cold foods, and instead eat nourishing foods. If you really like to drink beer, it is best to drink it at room temperature.
2. Limit activities
– Do not cool down rapidly
During the period of extreme heat, body activities often lead to rapid body heat and sweat production. Many people are eager to cool down quickly when they return home after activities, often opting for a cold shower. While this method can rapidly cool down the body, it has a significant impact on health.
The body may find it difficult to adapt to the temperature changes, resulting in discomfort, including abdominal pains, joint discomfort, and even colds. Moreover, cold water can cause blood vessels to contract rapidly, inhibiting the dissipation of heat stored in the body, making one feel even hotter later on. Therefore, the best way to take a shower is with warm water, which not only relieves fatigue but also keeps the body cool.
– Avoid prolonged sitting on wooden stools or sleeping on the floor
After the End of Heat, the temperature remains high and humid, causing some people to seek rest by sitting on wooden stools or lying directly on the floor. However, unbeknownst to many, wooden objects absorb rainwater and emit warm moist air when exposed to sunlight, which can lead to skin diseases and joint problems. Similarly, sleeping on the floor, although cool, is also damp and cold, causing harm to the body when done for an extended period.
3. Eat more
– Consume more Chinese yam to nourish the stomach and spleen
Recommended recipe [Tomato and Chinese Yam Soup]
Main ingredients: Chinese yam, tomato, broccoli, eggs
1. First, prepare a tomato, make a cross-shaped incision, then soak it in hot water for easy peeling. Peel the Chinese yam and blanch it in hot water to avoid itchiness during peeling.
2. Flatten the Chinese yam, then chop it finely. The finer, the better. Place the chopped Chinese yam in a plate for later use.
3. Heat some water in a small pot, add a few drops of oil, blanch the broccoli briefly, chop it into small pieces on a cutting board.
4. Peel the tomato and cut it into small pieces, then chop it finely. Transfer the chopped tomato into a bowl.
5. Heat cooking oil in a pan. Stir-fry the tomatoes until the juice comes out, add salt for flavor, pour in enough water, bring to a boil, then add the Chinese yam. The Chinese yam will clump together, so stir to dissolve them completely.
6. Cook until the soup thickens slightly, then add beaten eggs, quickly stir, add chopped broccoli, cook for a few seconds, and finally add salt to taste before serving.
– Increase physical fitness by consuming more fish and meat
Recommended recipe [Braised Black Fish]
Main ingredients: Black fish, garlic, spring onions, millet peppers
1. Soak the black fish in hot water, clean it thoroughly, especially the black membrane inside the belly and the blood adhering to the bones. Cleaning the fish properly ensures it does not have a fishy odor.
2. After cleaning, pat dry the fish and remove the fins using kitchen scissors. Cut off the head, make a cut near the tail, then slice the fish meat off the bones. Slice the fish meat into small pieces, wash them in water, add a little salt and cooking wine, mix well, marinate for 10 minutes.
3. Add some starch to the marinated fish, mix well. The added starch helps the fish hold its shape during cooking and adds flavor.
4. Heat oil in a pan, fry the fish over medium heat until lightly golden brown. Set aside.
5. In the same pan, add more oil, sauté garlic, add a spoon of bean paste, stir-fry until fragrant, add the fish, pour in some beer, then add seasonings including soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, seafood sauce, mix well, cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
6. Towards the end, uncover the pot, cook over high heat, lightly push from the bottom, sprinkle with spring onions and millet peppers, serve hot.
