“The end of summer is approaching, and the fans are gradually becoming less used,” before we know it, time has brought us through one day after another. Soon we will be welcoming the end of the hottest period, which means that we are getting closer to cooler weather.

The dog days of summer are the hottest period of the year, lasting for a long time, during which people sweat profusely and feel uncomfortable. Although the end of the hottest period is near, temperatures remain high, and people’s appetites continue to decline. As the saying goes, “It’s hard to live ten days after the beginning of autumn,” what should we eat during these hot and dry days? It is recommended to eat more of the “Five Treasures of the End of Summer” to safely get through the dog days.

(1) Eggs

① Take out 100 grams of flour and beat in one egg. Stir it a bit, and add cold water a little at a time, mixing until it reaches a yogurt-like consistency. Add a pinch of salt and stir evenly again.

② Take two eggs, crack them into a bowl, and mix well. Prepare some chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

③ Pour a little cooking oil into the skillet, then add the flour mixture. Spread the mixture evenly, sprinkle some black sesame seeds, flip it over and continue frying.

④ Pour a layer of egg mixture over it and sprinkle some green onions. Once the egg mixture is fully set, serve and cut into small pieces for consumption.

(2) Yam

① Take 80 grams of lean meat, wash it clean and chop it into minced meat. Gradually add green onion and ginger water, soy sauce, starch, and cooking oil, stirring clockwise until well mixed.

② Take a small piece of yam, peel it, and rinse it clean. Chop the yam into fine pieces and add it to the minced meat. After mixing well, place it in a bowl and create a small well in the center, cracking one egg into it.

③ Boil water in a pot, place the bowl with meat and yam in the pot to steam. After the water boils, continue steaming for 15 minutes. Sprinkle some chopped green onions and add a little soy sauce to finish.

(3) Pumpkin

① Cut off the stem of a baby pumpkin and slice it into several sections. Remove the seeds, wash it clean, and arrange the pieces on a plate.

② Take 100 grams of glutinous rice, cover it with cold water. Soak for an hour, rinsing a few times. Drain the glutinous rice to remove excess water.

③ Take 250 grams of foreleg meat, peel it, wash it clean, and chop it into minced meat. Gradually add green onion and ginger water, soy sauce, starch, and cooking oil, stirring clockwise until the minced meat becomes firm.

④ Roll the minced meat into spheres and coat them with glutinous rice before placing them on top of the pumpkin.

⑤ Boil water in a pot, placing the plate of pumpkin inside to steam. After the water boils, continue steaming for 25 minutes. Turn off the heat, let it sit for a while, sprinkle some chopped green onions, and it is ready to eat.
