As the ancients said: “Great Heat marks the extreme heat!”
Today is the Great Heat, the weather is really too hot. I went out to pick up a package, it took less than 5 minutes in total. But when I got home, I was sweating for half an hour, and my clothes were completely soaked.
The Great Heat is the last solar term of summer, with the scorching sun and hot weather, people tend to feel tired, loss of appetite, and may even suffer from heatstroke.
During the Great Heat period, we should pay special attention to diet, consume fewer lychees, apples, and other heaty fruits, and consume more fruits that clear heat, relieve summer heat, and nourish Yin.
On the Great Heat day, watch out for your diet, suggests consuming fewer lychees and apples, and more fruits, to replenish the body’s required fluids and nutrients, enhance immunity, and counteract the heat during the Dog Days.
1. Watermelon
Watermelon is one of the most popular seasonal fruits in summer and a great choice during the Great Heat season. It contains a lot of water, which effectively replenishes the body’s lost fluids due to sweating, providing rich nutrition.
Watermelon has the effect of clearing heat and relieving summer heat, suitable for people of all ages. During the hot summer, eating a piece of chilled watermelon can quench thirst and relieve heat, a very delightful enjoyment.
2. Peach
Peach is also a seasonal fruit in summer, and the older generation often says that eating according to the seasons is healthier and more nutritious. Peaches are not suitable for storage, so if you miss the summer season, you’ll have to wait until next year to enjoy them.
During the Great Heat season, peaches are fully ripe and abundant in the market. They are not only delicious and delicate but also rich in nutrients, loved by many.
3. Grape
There was a grapevine planted at the door of my house when I was young. We eagerly awaited the grapes to mature. During the Great Heat season, many relatives and friends would come over to taste the grapes.
As I grew up, the grapevine at the door was cut down. To this day, every summer I still remember it fondly, it was the most delicious grape I have ever tasted. Although you can find grapes everywhere in supermarkets and fruit shops now, I can’t find that same flavor.
Grapes are not only rich in nutrients but are suitable for people of all ages. They are delicious, sweet and sour, a fruit not to be missed.
4. Banana
Banana is a nutritious fruit containing abundant vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and other nutrients. It has the effects of lubricating the intestines, promoting bowel movements, and clearing heat and detoxification.
Banana is also a seasonal fruit in summer, with a soft and sweet taste loved by children. During the hot summer, eating more bananas can promote appetite.
5. Pear
When I was young, I loved going to my grandmother’s house during summer vacation because she had a very large pear tree that bore incredibly sweet pears. Although the pear tree was tall, I was agile and adept at climbing to pick the pears. I could eat two or three in one go while still up in the tree.
Pear is one of China’s oldest summer fruits, with many different varieties such as green-skinned pear, yellow flower pear, duck pear, and autumn pear.
Regardless of the variety, pears are juicy and delicious, with a sweet taste and rich nutrition. Pears have the effects of clearing heat, nourishing the lungs, stopping cough, and resolving phlegm.
During the hot Great Heat period, when the body’s fluid loss accelerates, we can eat more pears to replenish fluids and enhance immunity.
On this hot Great Heat day, pay attention to diet, consume less heaty fruits like lychee and apple, eat more fruits that clear heat, and your Dog Days will be more pleasant.
